A devastating fire occurred this past weekend at the Academic Institute of Scientific Information on Social Sciences (INION) in Moscow. (see below) This appears to have destroyed over 1 million texts and burned for the better part of a day. Thankfully no lives were lost. In seeing what lessons may be learned and how we can better protect other libraries, museums, sacred sites and cultural heritage structures, it would be of interest to understand what happened and what was in place regarding firesafety measures (e.g. detection/alarm systems, suppression systems, fire rated walls/floors, structural protection, fire prevention/response/recovery plans, etc) and whether these functioned accordingly. If you happen to see any further information, it would be greatly appreciated if you could please post, or forward this.
Thanks kindly,
Chris
