      Preservation 101:Preservation Basics for Paper and Media Collections

      The interactive online Preservation 101 course presents a series of 10 webinars and includes self-paced study between sessions, using assigned readings and other resources to supplement the “classroom” discussions. The course is designed to provide a foundation for effective collections stewardship by guiding participants through preservation topics such as environmental management, deterioration of materials, and emergency preparedness. The updated course features expanded coverage of audiovisual and digital formats.

      The instructor provides lesson plans and feedback on tasks throughout the course, although explicit homework is not assigned. Participants will have access to webinar recordings and additional tools while engaging in a weekly dialogue with the instructor and fellow students. The course prepares participants to complete a preservation needs assessment and provides structured guidance on developing an institutional disaster plan.

      When:
      A two-hour session, once a week, starting June 1, 2017 and ending August 24, 2017.

      Who Should Attend?

      – Staff and volunteers at cultural institutions
      – Town clerks, county commissioners, and other municipal records holders
      – Corporate archivists and records managers in need of preservation training
      – Students or graduates of library and information science

      Certificate of Completion provided, and 20 Archival Recertification Credits (ARCs) for eligible certified archivists.

      Course Fee:
      $650 Regular rate
      $500 Student rate (limited space available; copy of current student ID is required)

      Seats are limited to 30 people for optimum interaction with the instructor and other participants.
