I have a medical device (haven’t determined yet what it is) stored in a box. It is probably early to mid century. The paint is flaking in very tiny pieces. How do I remove it safely from the box for cataloguing? How do I preserve paint and prevent more from flaking?

Generally, what do you suspect the medical device is made from? What kind of box is it stored in?

Can you provide a photograph of the device in the box?

Hi Amanda, I will double check but the material it is painted on is probably tin and the box is cardboard. I get a picture today to post.
