CULTURAL HERITAGE AT RISK: IN DEFENSE OF CIVILIZATION
      Friday, October 27, 2017
      University at Albany, SUNY
      Uptown Campus, Campus Center Ballroom

      REGISTRATION OPENS AUGUST 28, 2017
The University Libraries, in cooperation with the new College of Emergency Preparedness, Homeland Security and Cybersecurity, as well as the New York State Department of Education, is excited to present a one-day conference, “Cultural Heritage at Risk: In Defense of Civilization.” Attendees will include students, faculty, and members of the cultural community in the Capital Region and beyond. The cost per attendee is $40, which includes lunch.
This one-day conference will bring together researchers in diverse areas of specialization whose commonality is the protection and preservation of cultural heritage, including irreplaceable artistic and historical collections, buildings, and important local, national, and international sites. The first part of the day will focus on the effects of climate change; the afternoon session will look at acts of war and terrorism. We are pleased to welcome Dr. Brian I. Daniels from the Penn Cultural Heritage Center as our opening keynote. Other speakers will include Dr. Chris Thorncroft and Dr. Victor Asal (University at Albany), Deidre McCarthy (National Park Service), Richard Lord (NYS Department of Homeland Security), Dr. Laurie Rush (Department of Defense), and Lori Foley (Heritage Emergency National Task Force, FEMA). Speakers will promote awareness of the importance of cultural heritage, what is being done to protect it, how it can be done successfully, and where research data is needed.
Our website is still under construction! See our schedule at http://scholarsarchive.library.albany.edu/char/schedule/.

Registration opens on AUGUST 28. Payment will be by credit card only. All are welcome – we hope you can attend this exciting event!
