Can anyone identify this object? The owner would love to know what he has.

Looks to me like a primitive scoop carved from a single piece of wood and probably intended for use in cooking or perhaps for feeding small livestock. The rounded notch in the rim of the bowl could simply be damage, or (more likely) it might have been made intentionally to facilitate controlled pouring of liquid or granular contents.
Sorry I did not post the image showing that the tapered end is open. The size is approximately 14 inches wide and 1 1/2 – 2 feet long.
