I am interested in thoughts on what to do with the stamps on postcards from the early 1900’s. Is it worth having the stamps evaluated by a professional prior to posting the images online for the public? How do you handle old postage values?

There are very few postcard stamps of the early 20th (or late 19th) century whose philatelic value would offset the cost of an appraisal or the effort involved in marketing them to a dealer or to private collectors. If such stamps are retained as integral elements of the postcards they won’t diminish in their market value, if any, and they could be removed and sold at a future date, although I don’t like the idea of altering an original object by removing any component, even if the component might have a marketable value in its own right. In any case,I certainly would not expect any significant appreciation of such stamps to take place in the foreseeable future.
