Does anyone have any experience with a group of museums sharing a collections storage facitlity?

I like this question a lot. We’re a small museum, and we are facing serious storage issues. We do not have a budget for a new facility, and raising that amount would take ..well, it may never happen. One possible solution is just this. But, I want to know if anyone is using this model right now.

As long as we are talking about small museums and storage issues. Have you heard about the new ICCROM-UNESCO platform for endangered collections in storage? http://www.re-org.info Registration and access to all the tools is free!
There are also the alarming results of the new ICCROM-UNESCO survey on museum storage: http://tinyurl.com/cu52jbh

      Hello Jascin,

There was a session on the topic of shared collections storage at the American Association of Museums’ Annual Meeting in Los Angeles on May 24, 2010. On page 16 of the Registrar’s Committee of the AAM’s 2010 Session Reviews document (http://www.rcaam.org/pdf/2010_Session_Reviews_web_version.pdf), there is a write-up on this session which includes the names of some of the presenters who have implemented shared storage projects in their regions.
