We are in possession of two artifacts at our museum that simply do not fit our collections policy.  They are two wooden handcrafted sailing ship models.   We are offering them to a good home where they will be paid the attention they deserve. The first ship is a replica of the flagship used by Columbus, the “Santa Maria”, built in 1934 by John D. Lilly, in a 34 ¾ inch by 12 inch wooden case with a glass front. The second ship is called the “The Prinz”, built by Howard Lilly, is 25 ½ inches by 4 inches. The ship has a stand but is not in a case.  Both ships are in good condition. We are looking for interested institutions that will be willing to pick up the ships or pay any shipping. We are an hour and a half south of Savannah and an hour north of Jacksonville, FL. You can contact me offline for photos of the ships.

Judi, have you contacted the US Naval Academy Museum? They have a really amazing collection of ship models.

An area yacht clubs or water recreation places might be interested as well.  Consider that not everyone will see these ship models as “artifacts,” especially once you’ve deaccessioned them from your collection.
