MemberCan anyone recommend a model of a large format flatbed scanner? We are scanning a large collection of documents, photos, schematics, letters, and other memorabilia. I’m hoping that there is one out there that can meet digitizing standards (600+ dpi, 24 or 48 bit color) for $350 or under. Our current scanner of 8.5″ x 12″ is too small – at least 11″ x 16″ would be great. Thanks!

ParticipantCheck out the Brother MFC-J6910 series of Professional Series Inkjet All-in-One with up to 11″ x 17″ scanning and printing. They are priced within your budget.
We have been using a previous model: MFC-6490CW for several years. Although it appears of flimsy construction, the machine has remarkably reliable! The only weakness is a relatively narrow depth of focus. If the material lifts of the platen, say, due to crease, that area is fuzzy. As long as you make sure the material lies flat again the platen, the scans a sharp.
Printing has exceed our expectations.
Good luck!

ParticipantI second the vote on the Brother 11×17 series MFC.
We have had a MFC-6490CW since 2008 and it’s still going strong.
We bought a MFC-J6910 and MFC-J6510 and they both work very well.
Very reliable, drivers work flawlessly, updates are frequent and everything works well with all our software.

MemberThanks for all the great info! With our budget, we’re looking at the MFC-J6510 and one other. Glad to hear the Brothers are reliable.
