We are a small museum, The entry way, office area, genealogical research are on a part that is carpeted. The balance of the flooring is fake wood that has shrunk about an eighth of an inch at each end. I do not know if this flooring is underneath the carpet.

I know the flooring has been mopped, the carpet just vacuumed. The carpet has not been cleaned for at least seven years and is grubby, to say the least.

What type of cleaning is recommended?  My concern that dampness might get in between the flooring cracks ( if the fake wood is underneath)and that we might have a mold problem down the road.

I feel that professional cleaning is in order, but have no idea what kind.

Thanks in advance  for any suggestions.
